History of South African Women vs Indian Women

The South African women’s team made its debut against England in 1960, becoming the fourth team to do so (after Australia, England, and New Zealand). The squad didn’t play any international matches between 1972 and 1997 due to the sporting boycott of South Africa as well as other reasons. South Africa returned to international competition in August 1997, playing a One Day International (ODI) against Ireland, and later that year, competing in the 1997 World Cup in India. The team has competed in every World Cup since then, reaching the tournament semi-finals in 2000 and 2017. South Africa has also competed in every Women’s World Twenty20, reaching the semi-finals in the 2014 edition, which was played in Bangladesh.

On the other hand, India’s women’s national cricket team is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The group has participated in 41 Test matches, with 8 victories, 6 losses, 27 draws, and 0 ties. At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, they took on the West Indies in a Test match on October 31, 1976, for their debut international encounter.

India has played 310 ODI matches, winning 168, losing 136, tying two, and four ending in a no-result. As of June 2024, India is ranked fourth in the ICC Women’s ODI and T20I Team Rankings with 104 rating points.

In its 191 T20I games, the squad has won 104, lost 80, tied one, and had six matchups end in a tie. India is ranked third with 263 rating points as of June 2024 in the ICC Women’s ODI and T20I Team Rankings.

South Africa’s Innings: Suffering to Get More Runs

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, hoping to reach a large total that would pose a threat to India. Unfortunately, they had a rough start. The Indian spinners, led by Pooja Vastrakar (4/13 in 10 overs), made life difficult for the South African batters.

South Africa lost wickets frequently and was unable to establish lasting partnerships, which resulted in a barrage of quick wickets during their innings. The team was bowled out for a respectable 84 runs in just 17.1 overs, despite the fact that none of the hitters scored more than thirty runs, with Tazmin Brits reaching as high as twenty.
